History

International Market Square was built in 1915 as the headquarters for Munsingwear, Inc., a Minneapolis-based garment designer and manufacturer. For many years Munsingwear was made famous for its union suits, and was said to be the originator of the classic golf shirt with the Penguin® logo.

Now home to nearly 150 residential and commercial furnishings showrooms, International Market Square is recognized as a landmark by the National Register of Historic Places. Renovated in the early 1980's, International Market Square's campus-like setting features five buildings, inter-connected by interior passageways. The heart of the complex is the dramatic, five-story Atrium, which lies in the core of the Design Center.

The Lofts at International Market Square project is comprised of the conversion of six floors and two penthouse floors of the north building into for-sale loft housing units. The first two floors of the building will remain in their current use as showroom and office space as part of International Market Square's Design Center. A portion of the first and second floors will be used for two loft entrance lobbies, and a three-level parking facility will be constructed, including 344 stalls public and private access. The parking facility will be connected to the building by a skyway bridge, connecting at the second floor of the building, with separate and secured access for loft residents.
